Love Confession for Revlon Colorburst Lip Butters

While these may not be new to the beauty market, I feel they are still deserving of the same hype as a recently launched product. The very first Revlon ColorBurst Lip Butter I owned, was given to me as a Christmas gift a few years ago and it spawned a serious obsession.

Since then, I have received and purchased a fair amount of different colours from the 20-piece collection. These drugstore gems are hands-down one of my favourite formulas. They're a cross between a lip balm and lipstick. Seriously...if a lip balm and lipstick had a baby, this would be it!

If you haven't tried these lip butters yet, what are you waiting for? Here are some swatches to help you pick a colour:

(From Left to Right: Sugar Frosting, Peach Parfait, Pink Truffle, Strawberry Shortcake, Sweet Tart, Berry Smoothie, Raspberry Pie, Lollipop, Sugar Plum, Fig Jam, Candy Apple and Red Velvet)

My favourite, and "signature" colour, still remains the very first one I ever received - Raspberry Pie. It's a beautiful mid-toned, fuscia shade that looks absolutely beautiful any time of the year. Lollipop is very similar to Raspberry Pie, but it leans a little more on the pink side and has micro-specks of glitter in it. It's also beautiful, but in my opinion, you don't need both because they are so similar. Opt for one or the other - sparkle or no sparkle. It's up to you!

My other favourites and most used include Strawberry Shortcake, a bright "barbie" pink which looks amazing with a tan; and Berry Smoothie, a "my lips but better" medium, natural pink - great for every day!

Each one of these buttery balms contain mango, shea and coconut butter to help hydrate and soften. While I personally reach for these more during summer months, they're also wonderful to help heal dry and cracked lips during winter.

I also really like the packaging of these. Each capsule has a quilted pattern in a colour that matches the bullet inside.

My only complaint is that they have minimal lasting power. While a typical lipstick can last up to four hours on the lips, the Revlon ColorBurst Lip Butters stick around for a measly two hours (if you're lucky). However, because some lean on the sheer and tinted, side they're easy to re-apply throughout the day. But some are pretty stinking opaque, so be sure to have a mirror on hand with those ones or else you'll end up looking like The Joker...

I hope to eventually add the additional eight colours to my collection. I've got my eye on Wild Watermelon for the summer and I am definitely going to buy a back-up of Raspberry Pie.

What colours do you like?

Happy Valentine's Day!

I wanted to take a quick minute to wish you all a very Happy Valentine's Day!

With the hustle and bustle of life these days, it's easy to forget the simple things. Although Valentine's Day may seem like a sorry excuse to shower people with flowers and chocolates, it's also a simple reminder to say the big four-letter word...

L - O - V - E

So even though work, school, kids and life can be busy and stressful, it's important to take a moment and let someone know how much you really care about them.

Mom and Dad - I love you!
Devon - I love you!
Lucy (my dog) - I love you!
Family (aunts, cousins, grandparents, etc.) - I love you!
Friends - I love you!
Anyone reading this - I love you!

I hope you all have a fantastic Valentine's Day!

Urban Decay Naked3 Valentine's Day Makeup

When I first started this blog, I knew I'd eventually be faced with a time when life became busy and Beauty by Birdy would have to take a back seat for a little while. Now is that time and it pains me to admit it.

I have a full-time job as a Member Services Coordinator for a non-profit association. It's a good ol' 9-5 position, Monday to Friday and tends to keep me pretty busy - especially this time of year. I'm currently planning a big event taking place during the first week of February. On top of putting in some overtime at the office, I'm also taking an online course to get my CAE designation. I am working towards becoming a Certified Association Executive, which will provide me with the knowledge to eventually become CEO or Executive Director of a non-profit organization. In other words - I'm drowning in paperwork, reading material, reports and discussion groups.

Until I find a way to manage my schedules a little better, my goal is to put up one post a week. So things may seem a little quieter on my blog, but I promise I haven't gone anywhere.

Now for some good news - Valentine's Day is around the corner! I hope you enjoy this look I created using the Urban Decay Naked3 Palette, which screams "use me for date night with your lover boy on Valentine's Day."
