While these may not be new to the beauty market, I feel they are still deserving of the same hype as a recently launched product. The very first Revlon ColorBurst Lip Butter I owned, was given to me as a Christmas gift a few years ago and it spawned a serious obsession.
Since then, I have received and purchased a fair amount of different colours from the 20-piece collection. These drugstore gems are hands-down one of my favourite formulas. They’re a cross between a lip balm and lipstick. Seriously…if a lip balm and lipstick had a baby, this would be it!
If you haven’t tried these lip butters yet, what are you waiting for? Here are some swatches to help you pick a colour:
(From Left to Right: Sugar Frosting, Peach Parfait,
Pink Truffle, Strawberry Shortcake, Sweet Tart,
Berry Smoothie, Raspberry Pie, Lollipop, Sugar Plum,
Fig Jam, Candy Apple and Red Velvet)
My favourite, and “signature” colour, still remains the very first one I ever received – Raspberry Pie. It’s a beautiful mid-toned, fuscia shade that looks absolutely beautiful any time of the year. Lollipop is very similar to Raspberry Pie, but it leans a little more on the pink side and has micro-specks of glitter in it. It’s also beautiful, but in my opinion, you don’t need both because they are so similar. Opt for one or the other – sparkle or no sparkle. It’s up to you!
My other favourites and most used include Strawberry Shortcake, a bright “barbie” pink which looks amazing with a tan; and Berry Smoothie, a “my lips but better” medium, natural pink – great for every day!
Each one of these buttery balms contain mango, shea and coconut butter to help hydrate and soften. While I personally reach for these more during summer months, they’re also wonderful to help heal dry and cracked lips during winter.
I also really like the packaging of these. Each capsule has a quilted pattern in a colour that matches the bullet inside.
My only complaint is that they have minimal lasting power. While a typical lipstick can last up to four hours on the lips, the Revlon ColorBurst Lip Butters stick around for a measly two hours (if you’re lucky). However, because some lean on the sheer and tinted, side they’re easy to re-apply throughout the day. But some are pretty stinking opaque, so be sure to have a mirror on hand with those ones or else you’ll end up looking like The Joker…
I hope to eventually add the additional eight colours to my collection. I’ve got my eye on Wild Watermelon for the summer and I am definitely going to buy a back-up of Raspberry Pie.
