Spring Lush Haul and New Releases

I recently used up the last of my shampoo bar and decided to make a trip into LUSH for another. Like a magnet, I was drawn to some newly released items and picked up some new bits and bobs that smelt too good to pass up.

Each year LUSH nails it on the head with new products for Mother's Day. In the past, they've been some of my favourite and most memorable items. These seasonal and holiday themed launches are limited edition and disappear from shelves pretty quickly. Once they're gone...they're gone. At least until next year (if we are lucky enough for them to return). Which is exactly why I grabbed two of these adorable critters. Yes, I will be sharing one with my momma, but I couldn't resist picking up one for myself as well.

They're supposed to smell like peppermint and geranium, but my nose seems to recognize more bubblegum aromas. I do really love the scent, but the bright red and purple colours were a total selling point as well.

LUSH recently released a line of Luxury Bath Oils, which seem to be a revamped version of their Bath Melts. I got sucked into their cute miniature size and decent price-point, grabbing two to try.

This is a citrus lover's dream! My mom said it smelt a bit like Pledge...

The ingredients used to create these slippery blobs include lemon, lime and lemongrass oils. Therefore it doesn't really smell anything like mango. But it does contain mango butter, so the product name isn't completely random.

I think it's supposed to look like a little green mango, but instead it kind of looks like an alien's egg. The green and orange colours are super vibrant and groovy looking, mashed together like Play-do.

This one is my favourite! It's sugary-sweet, but not overpowering. While You've Been Mangoed is sure to awaken all senses, Floating Island is a more relaxing scent, perfect for unwinding after a long or stressful day.

I'm quite happy I gave these puppies a try, for I am super impressed! I used Floating Island first (I had to fuel my vanilla addiction) but chose to chop it in half. Surprisingly, one portion was enough to make my water feel soft and luxurious. I couldn't believe how moisturized and nice my skin felt afterwards.

As someone who tends to forget body lotion, I think these luxury bath oils are a great solution. My body felt hydrated and smooth for days. Needless to say...I'm a fan! I can't wait to buy more and hope that LUSH launches new scents soon.

Finally, we arrive at the real reason I went to LUSH...

No, this is not cheese. It's a hydrating shampoo filled with coconut and it smells like a tropical vacation. My hair tends to be on the drier side and frizzes out of control most days. I wanted something that would tame my strands and having Pina Colada scented hair didn't seem like such a bad thing. It doesn't lather quite the same way solid shampoo bars do, but does the job to clean, hydrate and add shine to my hair.

I'm quite pleased with my new purchases, but as always, look forward to seeing what LUSH does next. They always have us on our toes, don't they?

Wet n Wild Setting Spray Makes A 'Long-Lasting' Impression

Last week my work hosted a provincial conference and awards gala, which means I ran around like a chicken with my head cut off for what seemed like endless hours. Thank goodness I brought the Wet n Wild PhotoFocus Setting Spray to keep my makeup intact.

Friday was the true test! I began my day around 7 o'clock in the morning and called it quits by midnight. I barely had any time to sit down, let alone make a trip to the washroom. I checked my appearance in the mirror (very quickly) one time but there was no chance for touch-ups. In addition, the hotel's air conditioning was on the fritz and I was certainly feeling the heat! But somehow, I avoided having a terrible makeup meltdown.

It wasn't until I began to remove everything from my face that night, when I realized I HAD to give a shout out to this product. It saved me from looking like a wreck, even after an incredibly long day. My blush had faded ever-so-slightly and the foundation was breaking up a little just around my nose, but other than that, my makeup looked pretty good!

I think this is an amazing drugstore option and if I dare say so myself...it's better than the Mac Prep + Prime Fix+ finishing spray. I love the nozzle and fine mist that sprays from the bottle. It's easy to control, coats my face evenly and dries quickly. It does not have a scent and my skin is pretty happy with it as well. High five for no breakouts!!!

My only wish is that it were sold in a larger size. I'm concerned this may not last me very long, but the petite bottle is perfect for travel.

Chocolate Avocado Smoothie Recipe

Every now and then I get a serious hankering for a chocolate banana smoothie, like the Funky Monkey from Booster Juice. It's simple and delicious, but with the addition of sugary frozen yogurt, it's really not all that healthy.

A few weeks ago I had a craving for the sweet treat and concocted my own version. I wanted to have it for breakfast, and knew that it needed to contain more substantial ingredients to keep me full until lunch. I threw in some avocado for its healthy fat, chia seeds for a little protein, and oats for extra fibre. The avocado was merely undetectable to my taste buds and made the smoothie nice and creamy.

1/2 avocado
1 banana
1 heaping tablespoon cocoa powder
2 tablespoons oats
2 teaspoon chia seeds
1 teaspoon organic honey
3/4 cup low-fat, soy or almond milk
1/4 cup plain yogurt
2-3 ice cubes

Simple! I throw everything into my Magic Bullet and blitz away for 60 seconds until it's a nice and smooth consistency.

This is another versatile recipe that can be switched up ever-so-slightly to suit your taste buds. A little  natural peanut butter could be added to make it taste like a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup. A scoop of chocolate protein powder could be used in replace of the cocoa powder. A handful of spinach would add a boost of vitamins - although the colour of your smoothie may not be too appetizing. The avocado could also be eliminated altogether if the idea of it being in your sweet breakfast is too grotesque. Experiment away and let me know what ingredients you like best!

Mani Spotlight - Wet n Wild 1 Step Wonder Gel

A nail polish that doesn't require a top coat and promises to wear for two weeks? A marvellous phenomenon indeed! But how does it REALLY perform? I put the Wet n Wild 1 Step Wonder Gel to test and today I'm sharing my thoughts.

It's a very thin, water-like consistency, which can get sloppy if the brush is over-loaded. But the colour applied nice and even with just two coats needed to achieve full opacity. I was also super impressed with how quick this polish dried!

I picked up the colour Pardon My Peach - a nice coral-y orange, but nothing overly spectacular or unique. I already have a few hues similar to this in my collection. I will say, however, that I preferred this formula best!

It dried with a nice glossy finish and was fairly long-lasting. Although it didn't last 14 days like Wet n Wild claims, I did make it to day five with minimal chips. Not too shabby if you ask me, considering I didn't use a base or top coat! But by day eight my manicure was looking a little rough and had to be removed.

In my experience, however, I haven't tried any brands that stayed on my nails this long. This one trumped the performance of some high-end polishes I have, and at the price of a Starbucks latte, it's a hit in my books. I'm already itching to try more colours.

Self-Rewarded Drugstore Haul

Whether you've reached a weight loss goal, received a raise at work, packed lunches every day of the week to avoid eating out, or passed a test...a pat on the back is well-deserved. It's important to reward yourself every now and then.

Last week I submitted the final assignment for an online, part-time course I've been taking for the past few years. It was quite difficult, time-consuming and stressful at times, but I am so proud of myself for sticking through it. It feels amazing to be done - aside from an exam in May that I will have to take before becoming a Certified Association Executive - but the bulk of readings, discussion posts and report writing is over! To celebrate, I treated myself to a little drugstore beauty haul. I'm so excited to test some of these goodies out and play with makeup, now that I have a little more spare time.

Take a look at what I picked up (p.s. everything I bought cost roughly $5):

Wet n Wild Photo Focus Setting Spray
I love setting sprays to eliminate excess powder on my skin. No cake face for me, no thank you.

Wet n Wild Photo Focus Eyeshadow Primer
There aren't many affordable eyeshadow primers on the market. I'm curious to see if this product will prevent creasing and encourage my shadows to stay put for longer.

Wet n Wild ProLine Liquid Eyeliner in Black
My initial thoughts were that this eyeliner is on the smaller size, but I suppose you get what you pay for. I was in need of a new black liner, and this one caught my attention. I have a feeling it will be a winner!

Wet n Wild 1 Step WonderGel Nail Color in Pardon my Peach
This orange-y, coral colour is going to be perfect for spring and summer!

Rimmel Clean Finish Foundation
I've actually never seen this foundation in stores before, so I have no idea if it is new or I've been hiding under a rock...

I don't wear a full face of makeup on the regular, so an inexpensive foundation is right up my alley.
It makes a big promise, claiming to create a natural 100% poreless look. The shovel-looking applicator is interesting as well. We shall see how this one works out...

Schick Xtreme3 Hawaiian Tropic Razor
I'm not sure why a scented handle is necessary on a razor, but obviously it convinced me to buy.

You don't have to spend money like I did to reward your hard work. Enjoy a pamper night with a hot bubble bath instead. Or throw on some sweatpants and lounge for a serious session of #NetflixAndChill. Either way, just be sure to treat yo' self!
