A few weeks ago I had a craving for the sweet treat and concocted my own version. I wanted to have it for breakfast, and knew that it needed to contain more substantial ingredients to keep me full until lunch. I threw in some avocado for its healthy fat, chia seeds for a little protein, and oats for extra fibre. The avocado was merely undetectable to my taste buds and made the smoothie nice and creamy.
1 heaping tablespoon cocoa powder
2 tablespoons oats
2 teaspoon chia seeds
1 teaspoon organic honey
3/4 cup low-fat, soy or almond milk
1/4 cup plain yogurt
2-3 ice cubes
Simple! I throw everything into my Magic Bullet and blitz away for 60 seconds until it's a nice and smooth consistency.
This is another versatile recipe that can be switched up ever-so-slightly to suit your taste buds. A little natural peanut butter could be added to make it taste like a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup. A scoop of chocolate protein powder could be used in replace of the cocoa powder. A handful of spinach would add a boost of vitamins - although the colour of your smoothie may not be too appetizing. The avocado could also be eliminated altogether if the idea of it being in your sweet breakfast is too grotesque. Experiment away and let me know what ingredients you like best!
