June 2016 Beauty & Lifestyle Favourites

July 5, 2016

I’ll admit…I’ve been in a bit of a blogging funk for the last couple of weeks. Call it having a lack of time, motivation, loss of inspiration, writers block or whatever you will…it happens. But there is one thing I find a little easier to sit down and talk about on Beauty by Birdy, and that is some of my most loved beauty items. So if anything, at least this slump comes at a good time…monthly favourites time!

Essie Saltwater Happy Nail Polish

Fingers and toes, toes and fingers. I wore this polish on both my feet and hands pretty much all month. It was the perfect summer introductory, greyish-blue colour. I am beyond ‘saltwater happy’ that I added this creamy pastel shade to my collection and declare it one of my top five favourite nail polishes EVER!

NARS Orgasm Blush

Beauty bloggers made me do it! Many years ago I became sucked into the hype surrounding this coveted blush and eventually caved. It was one of the first pricey makeup items I ever bought, and let me tell you…I have no regrets. Every summer I come back to the rosy hue, which has the most beautiful golden shimmer throughout. I just can’t get enough of the glow it adds and find myself reaching for this product pretty much every day. It is great for mornings when I just can’t bare to fuss with a dozen products but still want subtle luminosity. It blends like butter onto my skin and never looks powdery. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again…the hype is for good reason!

Ardell Demi Wispies

I’m not one to wear false lashes on a regular basis, but for special occasions and more glamorous looks they’re great! During the month of June I found myself reaching for these falsies a few times (which is why they look a little grungy). I wore them for my cousin’s wedding and they were unnaturally, natural! The length is perfect – not overly dramatic – but fluttery enough to accentuate my eyes. The clear band is not only less visible, but also quite flexible, easy to apply and comfortable to wear. They did not irritate my eyes and I often forget that I had them on.

Sephora Cream Lip Stain in Pink Souffle

This has been a favourite of mine for quite some time now. The colour is beautiful, especially for more natural looks. It’s actually the lipstick I chose to wear for my cousin’s wedding. The whipped texture of this product is satisfying to apply, super lightweight, dries comfortably on the lips and can last for hours and hours. I hope to try out more colours in the near future!

Breaking the Magician’s Code: Magic’s Biggest Secrets Finally Revealed on Netflix

I’ve often ragged on my Dad for watching some strange TV shows and movies, but I owe it all to him for selecting this interesting series on Netflix one day. Everyone in my family has enjoyed watching the episodes and we often find ourselves ‘oooooing’ and ‘ahhhing’ in amazement. In short, the show decodes and explains various illusions. It’s no secret that some kind of trickery is always involved, but I never realized how much magicians relied on their assistants. Flexibility, choreographed timing, trap doors, camera angles…everything is revealed. It totally spoils the element of surprise. The child within me doesn’t want to watch, but at the same time, curiosity often gets the best of me and I can’t look away.

Well there we have it – that wasn’t hard at all to write and I already feel a slight relief from my blogging rut! I have a good feeling about July and hope to be kicking out posts on a more regular schedule very soon.
