Maca Monkey Smoothie Recipe
I don’t think I will ever tire of testing new smoothie recipes (and I hope you won’t get tired of me writing about them). I just love experimenting with different flavours and superfoods. Plus they’re great for any time of the day – breakfast, second breakfast, lunch, snack or dessert!!
This one is a new favourite and I like to call it the Maca Monkey Smoothie. It’s based off Booster Juice’s famous Funky Monkey Smoothie and contains just four ingredients, including a ‘new-to-me’ superfood additive…maca powder.
1 Whole Banana
1 Tbsp Natural Peanut Butter
1 Cup Organic Chocolate Milk
1 Tsp Maca Powder
What on earth is Maca Powder?
Maca is a plant and the edible part comes from its root. It is typically ground into a powder and contains a variety of vitamins and minerals such as vitamin C and iron. It’s also a powerful source of protein, amino acids and fibre.
It has been historically used to increase libido in both men and women, but is also known to balance hormones and relieve side effects of menopause, including hot flashes and insomnia.
I personally use it in an attempt to boost my energy levels, as it is known to fight against fatigue. In addition, it contains a compound called flavonoids, which supposedly acts as a mood booster and can reduce anxiety.
Gym junkies may be pleased to know that it can also help with muscle gain, increase strength, stamina and improve overall performance.
Finally, maca can even help to improve brain function and memory.
How does it taste?
I personally do not like the smell of maca powder but it has a slight nutty flavour that I find is pretty tasteless once blended into this smoothie. And trust me…this smoothie is so sweet and delicious!!!
