e.l.f. Cosmetics $3 Lip Exfoliators

January 30, 2018

I’ve been playing with the e.l.f. Cosmetics Lip Exfoliators for a few weeks now and I have some thoughts…

My feelings are a little lukewarm. I like the idea of a lip scrub in stick form, and they do a good job to buff away dry skin while leaving behind a balm-y residue to help moisturize at the same time. However, I had higher hopes for the scents – particularly the cherry one. I was really looking forward to it because a) I’m a fruit fragrance fiend, and b) cherry is just such a nostalgic scent. Unfortunately, it’s not as strong as I had imagined it would be. The coconut and rose fragrances are actually quite prevalent, they’re just not my favourite…

Small flaw aside, I do enjoy using these products and have been reaching for them regularly as my lips have been taking a beating from the cold and snow. At first the exfoliators are pretty gentle. In fact, I was slightly disappointed and worried after my first use that they didn’t do much. But after a couple of uses, the waxy coating dissipates and a gritty texture is unveiled. Sometimes they can even be painful, especially on super dry or chapped lips. I like to lick my lips first to create a slick canvas for the exfoliator to rub against. Otherwise they can drag and feel scratchy, further irritating already unhappy lips.

They can also be a little messy, leaving behind bits of delicious sugar granules that can be easily licked away or wiped with a damp wash cloth. Just be aware that chunks may also fall onto the bathroom counter, or floor, or wherever you may be using these products…

And if used on lips with residual lipstick, I assure you they will look quite grungy and discoloured! But that’s nothing a quick swipe with a tissue can’t fix.

The pastel colours sure are pretty too, but they’re just for show and to differentiate between each scent. They apply completely clear.

Overall, for the $3 (USD) price, they really can’t be beat and I will definitely purchase more once these are gone. And my fingers are crossed that e.l.f. Cosmetics will one day release more scents…particularly stronger fruity ones!
