I’ve seen this tag circling the Internet, where beauty lovers explain which 10 products they would purchase right away if they happened to lose all their makeup.
I couldn’t imagine the pain I would feel if I left my entire makeup bag in a hotel one day. Or if my luggage got permanently lost after travelling on an airplane. I WOULD CRY!! But then I would get over it, and I would go out and buy these 10 items:
I can live without foundation, but I can’t live without concealer. Even on no-makeup days I try to hide my dark circles, blemishes and scars. The Maybelline Fit Me Concealer has never let me down! It’s a lightweight consistency that feels slightly hydrating under the eyes. It’s got great coverage and barely creases (even without setting powder), and once blended out, it looks like skin, which I really appreciate.
You’re going to notice a lot of drugstore products in this post. The truth is, I rarely ever spend my own money on high end goodies (as much as I would like to, it’s just not realistic for me). Plus, needing to buy 10 new items all at once can add up pretty quick! Even at the drugstore.
I’m choosing products that I seriously LOVE, that won’t break the bank. The NYC Smooth Skin Loose Face Powder is one of them! It’s finely milled and sits nicely on my skin. I find it even helps to blur my pores. Plus, a jar this size lasts me ages! I think the one I owned prior to this one stuck around for nearly 2 years.
I’ve only recently realized how much I love this bronzer, but I can assure you that when it crumbles out of the pan, I’ll be running out to buy a new one. At around $5, it’s also the bronzer I would buy again if I had to start my makeup collection again. You can’t beat that prize, and the product is ridiculously good! I love the warm tone of it. I never looks powder-y or patchy on my skin, and the matte finish helps it look even more natural.
Mascara is one product I change up quite a bit. There are always new options hitting the market, and seeing as it’s an item I run through quite quickly, I enjoy testing different ones. However, the L’Oreal Lash Paradise Mascara is my most repurchased. I always question why I try anything else when I crack open a new tube because it makes my lashes so incredibly long and lucious. It’s also not quite as hard to remove as some other mascaras I’ve tried. I can truly appreciate a long-lasting mascara that lifts my lashes and keeps them curled all day long, but isn’t a pain in the butt to remove.
I’ve opted to skip any eye shadows, and instead focus on looks that feature a winged liner and a pop of colour on the lips. This is pretty much my go-to anyhow, especially on days when I don’t want to spend too much time on my makeup.
Although it’s a little pricey ($25CAD), the Kat Von D Tattoo Liner is worth every penny! I’ve had this one since September last year and it’s still going strong. It honestly takes forever to dry out and despite such small packaging, it seems like there is an infinite amount of product inside. I love the brush tip applicator, which makes creating a feline flick super easy. It’s really all I have used for the past few years and it’s all I really know.
One of the few high end products I would want to repurchase again if I happened to lose all my makeup is the gorgeous MAC Soft & Gentle highlighter. I know it’s an oldie that no one really talks about anymore, but it’s my most-used highlighter. Now, I must admit, that I haven’t tried any from Becca, Hourglass, Jouer or CoverFX despite so many people raving about how smooth and glow-y they are. This one from MAC was the first highlighter I ever purchased and I can’t deny loving the shimmery golden glow it gives my skin. Especially in the summer!
I was tempted to pick the Laura Mercier Matte Radiance Baked Powder Compact in Highlight 01, which I also love, but to be honest, it’s a little sheer. If I need to buy just one highlighter, I think I’d want more impact.
Sorry (not sorry) that the next three products are lip products. I’m a lippie lover and I like to have options.
First, I always need to have a good lip balm. I enjoy using the Bite Beauty Agave Lip Mask at night, as it completely restores moisture to my lips. But it’s also great to prep for a liquid lipstick or matte formula that may feel drying during the day.
These are newish to me, but I’m so impressed with how comfortable they are to wear. They apply completely opaque with one swipe and wear for hours! The colour range is diverse and beautiful. The applicator is pointed at the top, so it’s easy to make a straight line and sharp cupid’s bow. It also has a hole in the middle to hold more product.
These liquid lipsticks are fantastic! And while I wish I could have the whole collection, I could settle for just one if I had to. I would probably pick a bold colour, however, like Ruler, as the next product is more neutral.
Since the Maybelline Matte Inks are matte (duh), I would probably want something moisturizing and slightly glossy as well. This Revlon Balm Stain in Honey is one of my most-worn lip products. It’s long-lasting and the colour is a beautiful mauve, that just adds a hint of colour to my naturally pigmented lips.
Now that I’ve talked about everything I would purchase to put ON my face, I want to talk about one product I would buy to take that makeup OFF my face.
The Philosophy Purity Made Simple Cleanser has been a staple in my skincare routine for nearly four years now. I buy one during every Black Friday event, as they tend to go on sale for $15 at The Bay or Sephora, and a (8oz) bottle lasts me a year. It’s soothing on the skin and does a pretty great job at removing my makeup.
So now I ask you…what products would YOU purchase immediately if you lost all of your makeup?
