September 2018 Beauty & Lifestyle Favourites

October 5, 2018

Dear reader,

I would like to inform you that Christmas is less than three months away! Can you believe it?!

I’ve already started decorating with twinkly lights (although I tried to convince Dev they’re simply to create a cozy atmosphere). The truth is, I cannot wait to decorate every inch of our new(ish) house!! It’s our first year owning a home and I’ve been waiting since January for the festive season to arrive. I know we have to get through Thanksgiving and Halloween first, but I’m just SO EXCITED! Who’s with me?

September 2018 Beauty Favourites: LUSH, Maybelline, Urban Decay, OPI

Unnecessary Christmas gush aside, are you curious to know what my September beauty and lifestyle favourites were? Continue reading!

Urban Decay Born to Run Eyeshadow Palette

It’s been a really long time since I’ve played with makeup as much as I did last month, and it’s all kudos to the Born to Run palette. The colours may seem intimidating at first glance. There’s definitely a lot of vibrant hues and a variety of tones. But I’ve had a ton of fun trying different combinations and trust me, it can be much more wearable than you think.

Ps. You can check out my Four Looks, One Palette post for some inspiration.

LUSH Let the Good Times Roll Face and Body Cleanser

I love how gentle, yet effective this cleanser is. It contains maize flour and polenta, which are the main gritty ingredients to exfoliate the skin, and glycerin and corn oil, which help to moisturize. It’s perfect for this time of year when the confusing temperatures can take a toll on my skin. Transitioning to a new season always causes breakouts and dry patches. This cleanser helps eliminate those dry patches, without further causing my skin to dry out, and soothes any irritations, redness, and breakouts as well.

I’m not exactly sure how it gets the incredible toffee fragrance, but it adds to the experience and washing my face has become quite the pleasant chore.¬†I only just realized that it can be used as a body scrub as well and I’m definitely going to start using it in the shower!! I can already imagine the wondrous caramel scent that will surround me in the steam. ¬†Mmmmmmmm!!

Unfortunately, this tub has since expired, but I’ve got a note in my phone to buy more during my next visit to a LUSH store.

Maybelline Fit Me Matte & Poreless Foundation

After getting my very first spray tan last month, I realized I was going to need to start wearing a different foundation to match my new bronzed complexion. I have had the Maybelline Fit Me Matte & Poreless Foundation for a little while now, but I purchased a shade a little too dark for my usually pale skin. Luckily I kept it around for the odd occasion I actually developed a tan.

This foundation matched (nearly) perfect and I finally noticed how beautiful it looks on the skin. Now, I have combination/dry skin, so I had to make sure I moisturized well beforehand and used a hydrating primer, otherwise it would sit on top of my skin and look cake-y. But after taking those necessary precautions, it looked really nice. My pores definitely looked smaller.

OPI Bubble Bath Nail Polish

This is the only colour I wore on my nails the entire month of September (except for when I took these photos). It’s the easiest pink that is neutral and works with any outfit. The formula is very sheer, so a solid three coats is necessary, but I like how thick and gel-like it makes my nails look in the end.

Chefs Plate

Last month I was truly lazy when it came to both grocery shopping and cooking. I didn’t want to do either! I felt as though I couldn’t come up with recipes to make, and I was sick of food going to waste. So I decided to start ordering Chefs Plate again. It’s been nice to test out different flavour combinations and meals that I wouldn’t normally think to make. It’s also super nice to know that we have at least two dinners ready to go in our fridge, without needing to buy any additional ingredients, for nights when we’ve had a long day and can’t even begin to think of what to make. They’ve also recently introduced 15-minute meals, for super busy nights and people. The produce basically comes pre-chopped and ready to use, while the recipe card has minimal steps to follow as well.

What I love most about this subscription service, however, is that there is never any waste. There’s less food going bad – mushy or mouldy – and stinking up our fridge. I’m scrunching my nose as I type this because MAN! do I hate cleaning out the fridge.

DW Home Heirloom Pumpkin Candle

I spotted this beautiful candle at Winners and I fell in love with the gold packaging. Immediately I began to think about all the ways I can repurpose the jar. Storage for Q-Tips or cotton rounds in our bathroom. A teabag holder. A treat bowl for Mavis’ cookies. Any way I use it, it’s going to look cute as hell!!

But then I opened the lovely wooden lid and gave the two-wick candle a whiff. It’s AHHH-MAZING! The notes are Heriloom Pumpkin with Zesty Citrus and Sweet Brown Sugar Stirred with Spicy Cinnamon. It’s everything I want in a fall fragrance!

Plus it was only $12.99, which I thought was a great price for a candle of this size!! It’s quite comparable to the 3-wick candles everyone goes coo-coo for around this time of year (you know the ones…). The only difference is it only has two wicks, it’s half the price and the packaging is gorgeous!
