Hey ya’ll! It’s a new month, and you know what that means…It’s time to recap my favourites from October. I personally think this is a good one. There are a few products here that I’m really excited about and have truly fallen head over heels for. If you’re curious to know what they are, continue reading!
I let my hair air dry 90% of the time. It often ends up a frizzy mess. But truth be told, I’m too darn lazy to stand in front of the mirror and hold my arms above my head to blow it dry. However, I think I have found THE PERFECT product to remedy my frazzled locks without needing any styling tools.
Lately I’ve been using a dime size amount of the Amika First Base Moisturizing Styling Cream on wet hair when I get out of the shower. I’m pretty sure it’s meant to be used as a pre-styling product on dry or damp hair to provide heat protection and hold. But I rarely use a curling iron or straightener – my hair is pretty straight naturally. I do find, however, that this product makes it sleek and smooths out my flyaways almost entirely. It is also very moisturizing, and I find can make my hair feel greasy faster, but I can’t help but love the way it makes my hair shine and smell.
I haven’t found a product that works as well as this one to tame frizz, and therefore, I’m SOOOOOO thrilled. I think this has potential to be a holy grail favourite!
The texture of this highlighter is absolutely beautiful! It’s like a cream-powder hybrid and feels slightly wet to the touch. It’s almost like butter! In a totally non-greasy way. It sits so nicely on the skin and never emphasizes texture. It’s got the lit-from-within glow that somehow looks natural. Of course, highlighters will probably never look natural, but this one doesn’t have any chunks of shimmer, or flecks of glitter, and it just melts into the skin.
A product like this definitely requires a dense brush to pick up maximum pigmentation. But I actually enjoy using a fluffy highlighting brush first to apply a light dusting on the tops of my cheekbones. Then I go in with my fingertips to intensify the highlight on the highest points of my cheeks. It’s the perfect golden-champagne colour and I simply can’t stop wearing it!
I have been reaching for this deep metallic lippie a ton lately! I love that it’s dark and slightly vampy – definitely my vibe for fall – but it’s also sheer and not too bold at the same time. It’s a liquid lip with a super glossy and metallic finish that makes the lips look large and juicy. It doesn’t have the super long staying power that many liquid lipsticks do, but the pigment does settle and lingers for a while. However, because it has a thick, high-shine finish, it can slip around a little. If I’m not careful, the colour can smudge onto my chin or upper lip. The positive note to this formula is that it’s VERY comfortable to wear. It doesn’t dry down and suck all the hydration from my face.
I also love the applicator! It’s fluffy and feels soft when it touches my lips. The curved doe foot creates a pointed tip that hugs my lips and makes carving out my cupid’s bow a dream.
This isn’t anything you haven’t seen before on Beauty by Birdy. You probably already know that I’m obsessed with the Maybelline Fit Me Concealer. But the way I have been using it lately has changed. Instead of using it just under my eyes to hide dark circles and on blemishes, I’ve been slathering it all over my cheeks, forehead, chin and nose, as if it were foundation. I love the finish! It has great coverage and dries pretty matte, allowing me to add as much glow with highlighter as I want.
It took me a while to decide if I liked the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. It’s definitely very different (dark and scary) compared to the original Sabrina the Teenage Witch TV show. But I binged the 10 episode series in just a few days, which made it pretty obvious that I didn’t hate it. I thought the actors were great. The storyline is compelling. The wardrobe and makeup is spot on. Plus it left me wanting to know more, and any show that entices me to come back and watch another episode – or two, or three, or four (in one sitting) – is a good show in my mind.
Have you watched it? What did you think?
I wasn’t sure whether or not to consider this a beauty or a lifestyle item, but it has had an affect on my lifestyle, hence why you’re reading about it here. I first received this rollerball at the Atelier Collective and learned a special technique for using it.
The technique: Roll a small amount into the palm of your hand. Rub the oil together with the palm of your other hand. Cup you nose with both hands and exhale the zesty fragrance.
I used it one evening before a late night gym session that I felt I had no energy to do. It ended up being one of my best workouts. I actually felt slightly hyper and didn’t want to stop. This essential oil blend actually works!! Now I use it almost daily, especially around 3 or 4 in the afternoon when I hit a slump.
Can you believe it’s November already? This means there’s only one monthly favourites post (November’s) to go before the end of the year! If you’ve been following for a while, then you’ll know that in January I will recap my favourite drugstore and high-end products from the entire year. Unfortunately, there won’t be a December 2018 Beauty and Lifestyle Favourites post. But I promise the posts in its place will be goodies! I’ve already started to brainstorm for these posts and I’m so excited!! I’ve discovered some amazing products from both categories so far this year. Stay tuned!
