November 2018 Beauty & Lifestyle Favourites
Well…this is it…the last monthly favourites post of 2018. WOW has time ever flown!
If you saw my October 2018 Beauty & Lifestyle Favourites post, then you may remember me stating that there won’t be a December favourites. Instead, I’ll be talking about ALL the drugstore and high-end products I fell in love with this year. And let me tell you, there are a bunch!!
But first, let me share the few items I discovered and re-discovered last month.
Beauty
The Better Skin Co. Amaze Balm
I knew I liked this product when I first began using it a few months ago. However, my appreciation for it grew a few weeks ago when I came down with a cold. I always get incredibly dry skin, especially around my nose from blowing it so much. It gets red, raw and super sore. Generally, I just deal with the pain and try to use concealer to cover it up. But nothing can truly hide the crusty areas. If anything, makeup only makes it look worse. Instead, I need something that prevents the dryness from occurring in the first place and the Amaze Balm did the trick! It’s super thick, butter-like formula was exactly what my dehydrated skin needed.
I’ve also been using it religiously now that the colder temperatures have arrived. Around this time of year my skin feels tighter and I tend to get dry patches. To combat this and quench my skin’s thirst, I’ve been using the Amaze Balm as a night cream. I apply a generous amount to my face and rub the excess onto my elbows and the backs of my hands before bed. It can feel quite greasy at first, and takes a while to absorb, which is why it’s perfect to wear during sleep. By the time I wake up in the morning my skin feels hydrated and looks plump.
Sometimes I’ll even apply a layer or two throughout the day if I’m not wearing any makeup, just to give my skin that added boost of moisturizer it desperately needs at the moment. It also has a really pleasant citrus scent, that makes using it all the more enjoyable.
Burts Bees Chai Tea Lip Balm
I was on the hunt for this lip balm for quite a while and I finally found it last month! Hold your enthusiasm for me though, because I’ve lost it!!
*Insert super sad face here*
I have absolutely no idea where it has gone, but I’m sure (like all my other lip balms) it will show up somewhere eventually. What I do know is that I really, really enjoyed using it while it was around. The scent is much more vanilla-y than I would have expected, with the spicy cinnamon and clove notes hanging out in the background. But I personally really like that it is not over powering.
Wet N Wild MegaGlo Makeup Stick Contour in Oaks On You
Because my skin has been so dry lately, I’ve really enjoyed using cream products and less powder. I’m impressed by this inexpensive drugstore bronzer. I think I bought it for around $5 and I’ve used it every day since. It’s very creamy and easy to blend. I have the lightest shade, which is a little orange-y, but I like a warm toned bronzer so I don’t mind.
NYX Rouge Cream Blush in Boho Chic
In keeping with the desire for dewy looking skin, I’ve been using this NYX cream blush a ton. As you can see I’ve hit pan! Which makes me excited and sad at the same time. I’m really not ready to be finished with this product just yet. It’s literally the perfect cool toned pink and adds a layer of moisture that makes my cheeks look glow-y and healthy.
Lifestyle
The Couple Next Door by Shari Lapena
I’ve been enjoying reading lately – whether in bed before falling asleep, or on the GO train for my commute to the office – and this book has me hooked. It’s about a couple whose baby daughter goes missing while they’re at a neighbourly dinner party. There’s a twist that I haven’t quite figured out yet, but it’s encouraged me to keep flipping through the pages to find out.
Have you read it? What did you think?
