Favourite High End Discoveries of 2018

January 11, 2019

OK ya’ll, you may have seen my Favourite Drugstore Discoveries of 2018 earlier this week. Well, now it’s time to talk about all of the more high end items I fell in love with. There’s a good mixture of skincare, haircare and makeup. I hope you enjoy!

The Better Skin Co.

Last year I fell in love with basically everything The Better Skin Co. It started with the Lava Magik Cleanser, which is still my favourite exfoliator. The Epic C Vitamin C Serum is great, and the Zit No More spot treatment is my go-to pimple zapper. It’s clear so it’s perfect for wearing out and about or under makeup.

But my most recent obsession is the Amaze Balm. I’ve just used up the entirety of my jar and I’m planning to purchase another one ASAP. It has the richest texture that feels kind of like whipped butter and it has saved my skin from being super dry as the temperatures have changed. It can feel a bit greasy at first, so I prefer to use it at night before bed – and when I do, I slather it on like I’m icing a cake. It sinks into my skin by morning time and makes it feel great. It also has a really lovely citrus scent that I can’t seem to get enough of.

High End 2018 Favourites - The Better Skin Co.

This isn’t a post to rave about the Amaze Balm alone, however. Instead I wanted to feature The Better Skin Co. brand as a whole. The products are clean, simple and they definitely do not disappoint. They were a stand out favourite of last year.

AMIKA First Base Moisturizing Styling Cream

I’ve never been much of a hair product lover. If I’m honest, there has yet to be a product that knocks my socks off. I have quite frizzy hair and due to a lack of successful discoveries, I’ve pretty much just learned to stick the flyaways down with hair spray. But this styling cream has changed the game for me. It smooths my hair out completely and makes it smell amazing too. I like using it in conjunction with my current go-to shampoo, which may surprise some of you. It’s the Dove Men+Care Fresh Clean Fortifying 2 in 1 Shampoo with Caffeine + Menthol. I ran out of my shampoo once and resorted to using Dev’s. Surprisingly I ended up really liking it and purchased a bottle for myself. The combo of the two hair products leaves my hair sleek, shiny and flyaway free!

STILA Heaven’s Hue Highlighter in Brilliance

This highlighter has trumped any of the highlighters I’ve tried.

*Disclaimer: I haven’t tried THAT many highlighters.

But this one is by far my favourite discovery yet. It makes the skin look wet (if you get what I mean). It’s shiny, but not glittery and the champagne-y hue is very complementary on my fair skin. It always wears well throughout the day without fading or looking patchy.

BITE Matte Crème Lip Crayen in Glacé

You guys know I’m obsessed with the BITE Agave Lip Mask (and if you didn’t know that already, you can read about it here, here and here). I recently fell in love with the lavender scented one.

But last year I also fell in love with the Matte Crème Lip Crayen in Glacé, which was included in one of the Sephora birthday sets for Beauty Insiders. It’s described as a dusty mauve colour, but it appears more pinky-brown on me. It’s super pigmented, glides on smoothly, feels hydrating, and is simply my new favourite nude(ish) lipstick. This is just a sample size, but I’ll definitely be buying a full size once it’s gone (which will probably be pretty soon seeing as I’m using it practically every day).

Urban Decay Born To Run Eyeshadow Palette

This eyeshadow palette made me fall in love with makeup again. The variety of colours makes it so fun to play with. I love the magenta hues, and the greens, and the rusts…OK, I love them all. But what I love most is how versatile it can be. I can create a super bold and crazy colourful eye. Or I can create a more subtle neutral eye perfect for every day wear. The shadows also blend like a dream and the shimmers pack some punch. Urban Decay absolutely killed it with this one!
