My Week in an “Egg”shell

Let’s give this a shot…

I know this is not the type of content you would typically find on Beauty by Birdy, but I thought it would be fun to recap my weeks. It may or may not be interesting to some of you. Some weeks will be more exciting than others (I’ll be honest…I do a lot of sitting at a desk every week). The photos are most likely going to be captured by my phone and in the moment, so they won’t be as professional or thoughtfully planned out. You may see images of my usually disastrous house (imagine me drowning in piles of laundry here). But I think this is going to be a fun series to do for me to reflect on the week – the good, the bad and the ugly – and look back on these posts almost like a diary.

Now onto the exciting – although not really exciting – things that happened this week.

New Door

We installed a new door in between our kitchen and mud room. OK, I guess it’s not a new door because there was never a door there in the first place…

We installed a door in between our kitchen and mud room. The mud room is not very insulated, and we were losing a lot of heat because of it. Thanks to Dev’s boss this door was cost efficient and will hopefully save us money in gas bills down the road.

New Leader

Up until now we were using a Gentle Leader for Mavis. The one that goes around her nose…the one that she absolutely despised! It never really fit her skinny snout properly and seemed to scrunch her eyes rather than her nose. It worked at first when she was smaller, but eventually she learned to ignore it (somewhat) and had started to pull more.

We decided to get an Easy Walk Harness, as recommended to us by my cousin and her husband. WOW has it made a difference! It hooks around her front legs and chest, and pulls her from the front, steering her to the side and redirecting her attention to whomever is walking her.

Now there’s actually slack in the leash when we walk. She barely pulls at all! Unless she spots a squirrel…

Zucchini Noodle Combo Bolognese

I’m not the biggest fan of zucchini noodles alone, but I recently discovered that you can use them to bulk up regular spaghetti noodles. I tried about half and half (ideally I would use whole wheat pasta but we don’t have any of those at the moment) and surprisingly the zucchini was undetectable! Especially when smothered in Dev’s Grandma’s “famous” bolognese sauce. It’s a great trick to eat less carbs and up your veggie intake. Give it a try and let me know what you think!

New Fave Date Night Bar

Friday night was date night and we ventured to The Capitol Bar on King Street E in Hamilton. It was only our second time there but I’m declaring it my new favourite spot. They’ve got the cutest charcuterie and cheese boards that are perfect for sharing. The martinis are fab and the atmosphere is cool and calm. I highly recommend!
