F·R·I·E·N·D·S Inspired Purple + Red Makeup

April 9, 2019

I’ve always been under the impression that red and purple just don’t go together. Especially when it comes to makeup.

Well, red is a warm tone and purple is a cool tone. They’re also very close together on the colour wheel, and generally the rule of thumb is that colours opposite of each other will compliment one another best. Those close together can clash.

But back in December while watching all of the F·R·I·E·N·D·S Christmas Episodes, it stood out to me that one of Ross’ girlfriends was wearing purple eyeshadow and a red lip. She had a pale lavender shade swiped all over her lids and her red lip was super glossy. I was INTO it! I felt inspired to create a similar look to determine whether or not purple and red actually can be pulled off together.

Sidenote: I had intended for this post to go up back then, but I wasn’t happy with how my original photos turned out. I finally had the chance to re-do and snap the look a couple of weeks ago and I’m so excited to share it with you to see what you think.

It definitely has a 90s vibe and surprisingly, I don’t hate the combo. But I also don’t love it. What do you think? Does this colour combo get a thumbs up or is it pretty horrid? Leave a comment below!
