With highly pigmented shades that are buttery smooth, it’s easy to mistake the Instagram-inspired CATRICE Badass BAE Eyeshadow Palette for one from a high-end brand. But no, it won’t cost you the equivalent of a (within data limit) phone bill. It’s only $16.99 and available at the drugstore! There are three palettes within the BAE collection, so you could technically buy them all for less than one on the Sephora’s Bestsellers List. IKR…it’s a steal!
The others in the collection are called Self-Made BAE and Basic BAE. Self-Made BAE is more cool-toned with mauves and purples, while Basic BAE is full of neutral browns.
The one I have, called Badass BAE, is full of warm shades that are going to be perfect for summer! There are 8 mattes, including a creamy white, a cool-toned brown which is practically the same colour as my skin tone, a warmer but still very pale brown with a bit of a yellow undertone, a few different tones of corally-orange, a mauve-y red and a deep chocolate brown. In addition, there are four shimmers, including a rich champagne gold, a taupe-y brown, a pinky-brown and a rose-y red. (LOL please forgive my poor colour descriptions).
The mattes are little powdery, but it’s not a game-changer for me. I think this is a sign of how soft and pigmented the shadows are, IYKWIM. A small amount goes a long way and with careful application (gentle dabbing motions rather than quick swipes) fallout onto the face shouldn’t be an issue. But just to be safe, I’d recommend doing an eye look using this palette before applying foundation, concealer, bronzer, blush or highlighter, JIC any colour does travel off the eyelid.
The shimmers are my favourite! They’re soooooooo creamy! I’m also a sucker for these kinds of hues, and I like that they have a bit of sparkle, but nothing too intense that will fall all over my face as I wear it throughout the day.
The best part is that CATRICE Cosmetics are 100% cruelty-free. They’re also a leader in affordable clean beauty! Most of their products are vegan, alcohol-free, oil-free, perfume-free and paraben-free. Which I think is super amazing for a drugstore brand!
The packaging is a tad cheap IMO. TBH, I would be deterred by the skull and cross bone pattern on the front if I spotted it while walking down the cosmetic aisle. But the cardboard casing makes it light and compact, and I love that it has a decent size mirror on the inside.

CATRICE Cosmetics products can be found in Canada at Shoppers Drug Mart and Loblaws. But hurry quick, bae…word on the street is that these palettes are flying off the shelves. If you happen to pick one up, LMK if you love it as much as I do!
Ps. If you made it to the bottom of this post without having to Google some of the abbreviations I used, I commend you! I’m not sure I’m cool enough to use as many as I did, but you know what…in the spirit of it being an Instagram inspired palette review…#IDGAF! #YOLO! LMAO. SMH. Cringe Emoji.
