I’ve been really slacking with my blog writing lately (sorrrrryyyyyyy) and I’ve procrastinated this review for far too long. Which is actually a good thing for you, because I’ve put the Catrice HD Liquid Coverage Foundation and Liquid Camouflage High Coverage Concealer through the wringer to provide my best opinion.
Catrice Cosmetics
First, I want to talk a little about the brand. You’ve seen it here on Beauty by Birdy before, but in case you’re new here (Hi! I’m Kelly. Nice to e-meet you.) I want to provide a little background.
Catrice Cosmetics creates and sells luxury-inspired makeup at affordable prices. The brand arrived in Canada earlier this year and can be spotted as you wander aimlessly down the aisles at Shoppers Drug Mart, wasting time sniffing body washes, swatching lipstick colours and searching for those red sticker sales. OK…maybe you’re not doing that during our current state of emergency. In and out. Right ya’ll?
Luckily, you can browse and learn about the brand online at www.beauty.shoppersdrugmart.ca as well.
Catrice Cosmetics is special because they recognize that consumers are becoming more and more concerned about the ingredients used to create beauty products. Therefore, it’s their mission “to provide quality products at WOW factor prices” and are moving towards a cleaner standard. I’ve been going on and on about clean beauty for about a year now, so I love that there’s an affordable brand hopping on the bandwagon.
The brand is headquartered in Europe, where products must adhere to standards set in place by the EU Cosmetics Regulation, which restricts over 1,500 ingredients from being used in beauty products. For reference, the US only restricts 11…
Catrice Cosmetics has also taken it upon themselves to ban 60+ additional ingredients, including volatile silicones, solid microplastic particles and certain dyes. All products are clearly labelled and most are vegan, paraben-free, gluten-free, alcohol-free, perfume-free, and oil-free. The whole line of products is 100% cruelty-free, and has been since inception!
Catrice Liquid Camouflage High Coverage Concealer
I received two shades of the Liquid Camouflage High Coverage Concealer, 005 Light Natural and 020 Light Beige. Light Beige is perfect for me now that I’ve spent some quality time out in the sun over the last little while. But towards the end of the colder months (ahem, May…*eyes are rolling*) I had to mix the two shades together. Light Beige was a smidge too dark, and Light Natural is a bit too light, but awesome for highlighting.
I’m really in love with this concealer though. In fact, I recently splurged on a tube of the MAKE UP FOR EVER Ulta HD Self-Setting Concealer, and on a regular basis I’m reaching for the Catrice Liquid Camouflage High Coverage Concealer instead. I wouldn’t say it’s a dupe for the high-end product, but it does have a similar self-setting formula. I rarely have to use powder (unless it’s a super hot day and I know I’ll be sweating my arse off) and it doesn’t crease. It’s got great coverage! A little goes a long way and the best part is that it costs $7.99 CAD!
I don’t think it falls under the fragrance-free category, however. It has a floral fragrance that I could definitely do without.
Catrice HD Liquid Coverage Foundation
At $13.99 CAD, the Catrice HD Liquid Coverage Foundation is also a great buy that lives up to its claims and compares to high-end products. It has a very watery consistency that I love dispensing from the dropper applicator. It’s also suuuuuper matte and dries quickly, so work fast! Once it dries, however, it feels so lightweight on the skin and it lasts! I wouldn’t dare test it out for 24 hours, but there’s no doubt in my mind that it could live up to the claim as noted on the bottle.
It’s also high coverage (something I’m not really used to). But while it’s definitely detectable on the skin, it somehow looks natural at the same time. It smooths out pores and creates a second skin effect. From far away it’s perfection! Up close…like REEEEAL close…it’s definitely noticeable. Which I think is almost expected from a high coverage foundation. If I don’t want you to know that I’m wearing makeup, I’ll reach for a skin tint or lighter coverage foundation that will allow my blemishes and imperfections to peek through, rather than something that will cover everything up.
I’ve tested it with a brush, a sponge, and my fingertips. All work well. I prefer it most with a damp sponge, as it sheers the coverage a little and adds a touch of hydration that my skin needs.
Again, I received two different shades to test – 010 Light Beige, which is far too light for me at the moment, and 032 Nude Beige, which is a tad too dark. Both have neutral undertones and when mixed, create my perfect shade. Although, I’m pretty confident the lightest shade is going to be exactly what I need for winter. And if I work on my tan a little more, the darker shade will be perfect for summer.
FYI – I used both the foundation and concealer for each of the five looks I created using the e.l.f. Cosmetics 18 Hit Wonders Eyeshadow Palette. If you missed that post, be sure to click here and let me know which look is your favourite!
Overall, I’m very impressed with these two products and continue to use them on a regular basis. I highly recommend you scout out Catrice Cosmetics next time you’re at a Shoppers Drug Mart (or browsing online).
